A Grant of Letters of Administration is the legal document issued by the Probate Registry when someone dies without a valid Will. It gives the named administrator the legal authority to deal with the estate, equivalent to a Grant of Probate.
What authority does it give?
- Instruct banks and financial institutions to release funds
- Deal with the Land Registry to transfer or sell property
- Collect in investments and other estate assets
- Pay debts and distribute the estate to beneficiaries
When is it issued?
When the deceased did not leave a valid Will, or when a Will exists but there is no executor willing or able to act. The application uses form PA1A.
YouCanDoProbate completes the PA1A and all required IHT400 forms automatically as part of the platform walkthrough, including the Intestacy Walkthrough that confirms who is entitled to inherit.
