The PA1A is the probate application form used when the deceased did not leave a valid Will. It is submitted to the Probate Registry as part of the application for a Grant of Letters of Administration.

What does the PA1A ask for?

Details about the deceased and the person applying as administrator (name, address, relationship). It also asks whether all reasonable steps have been taken to find a Will, and requires details of any relatives with priority ahead of the applicant.

What do you send with it?

  • An official copy of the death certificate
  • The IHT421 reference from HMRC where an IHT400 has been submitted
  • The Probate Registry application fee of £526 for estates over £5,000
